Reading Girl Geek Dinner

When I first heard about 'Girl Geek dinner', it straights away aroused my interest to attend. Thanks Natasha for reminding me about the dinner yesterday :)

The Reading Girl Geek Dinner was held in Glo restaurant on the 23rd September. Despite the rain, the attendance was actually quite good. The dinner was sponsored by Dedipower Managed Hosting Ltd. The guest speaker was Sarah Blow who is the founder of the Girl Geek Dinners. The topic was "Where It All Began".

Just to clarify, the attendees were all not IT geeks, techie with thick spec and talk like weirdo. They were professionals working in the IT industry besides me. Ha! A MSc who is still in the learning phase.

The networking session was quite cool! Catching up with some latest IT news, how the market works, and in fact, I am not sure why am a bit carried away when talking about my dissertation research although it may just a piece of shit! Lol!

There are chaps as well attending the event :)

Dame Anita Roddick, the founder of The Body Shop International, once said that 'Women are good at combining their interests with thier skills and transforming them into a livelihood'. So I am just thinking perhaps in the next Reading Girl Geek Dinner, we can talk about something that we can create based on the IT related knowledge that we have. Ha!

By the way, there was this bloke was saying that I don't look like an undergraduate, then he added, 'in a good way.' lol! No worries, I can't stop myself from aging anyway! So just have to deal with it... :)

Jom Makan Raya

I was invited to a 'Raya' dinner last Friday. The dinner was in potluck style which everyone contributed a dish or two of Raya food. Except me...hehe...Thanks to my fellow Malaysian organiser who booked a place in HUMSS Building for the dinner and Kak Dian who invited me to the dinner. I don't know Kak Dian until she was introduced by my ressearch supervisor. Then only we know each other and apparently we both were doing our 1st degree in the same universiy, University Putra Malaysia, in same faculty. She is one year senior than me. What a coincidence!

Me and Kak Dian

Everyone was dressing up in Malaysia traditional costume. It's been ages since the last time I saw Malaysian traditional costume such as Baju Kurung, Baju Kebaya, Baju Melayu etc. So I was kinda excited as I felt like I was in my university time. I used to dress in Malaysian traditional costumes when we attended some formal events. Mostly those free 'makan makan '(dinner) event. Ha!

The emcee...MSc in Politics Science...'orang politik ni', don't play play :p

This is my first time meeting Malaysian mature students in University of Reading. Most of them are lecturers in various public universities in Malaysia and currently doing their PHD in University of Reading. Obviously I am the only Malaysian in my course, hence I am glad to see fellow Malaysians in the university.

My favorite 'Raya' dishes are the cookies and Chicken 'Rendang'. I used to visit my Malay friends back in Malaysia during Raya. I was excited when I spotted those food are served. So I had loads of Chicken Rendang, cookies, Laksa Johor and some very mamak-like kopi susu. Absolutely love it! I think I ate a lot.. Ha!

Raya Cuisine...Awesome!!

I ate and ate and ate....

At last, we would like to wish all Muslims,

'Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri & Maaf Zahir Batin'

Touching moment

Picture was taken when in Dene Close bus stop..what a touching moment! I thought about a Chinese saying '执子之手.至死不渝' It means that when you found the one in your life, you are going to be together with him/her for the rest of your life... :)
